The Rational For Buying Car Insurance
Having car insurance is not optional in this country. State laws list the minimum a person must carry in order to drive. This is for the protections of others as well as oneself. The majority of states will not issue a driver's license or register a car without proof of insurance. These laws were put in force after it became evident that families were having to file bankruptcy because of automobile accidents.

Protecting one's self and family members, as well as other people driving, should an accident occur, is a responsibility that cannot be overlooked. When getting into a car this preparation, by means of insurance, can help one avoid dire circumstances. It only takes one accident to cause irreparable harm.

Anyone who has been in a car accident will tell you it is no fun. In addition to being suddenly hit with a hard object, the other car, the car slides and turns and one does not know where it is going to stop. This brings the adrenalin flowing, the heart pounding, and gasping for air. It is a terrible shock.

Most people today could not afford to pay thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars out of pocket. Yet this can easily be the cost of an accident today. The ambulance alone usually is a thousand dollars. Add that to the hospital, test, doctors and other things and one is in a world of hurt without insurance coverage. There is also the possibility of being injured so severely that one is unable to work. Having this clause added to one's insurance policy is a good idea, especially if one is the breadwinner in the family.

In California one cannot get a driver's license or register a car without showing proof of the minimal insurance requirement. This requirement is: liability of $15,000 for one person's injury or death; $30,000 for injury or death to more than one person and $5,000 for damage to property. If one is the cause of an accident and the other person's car is totaled there is no way it can be replaced for $5,000. Injuries, also, could cost much more than this coverage.

When shopping for car insurance one needs to be careful in their selection. Sometimes it is easy to get carried away with television and Internet ads but caution needs to be practiced. Always insist on knowing what the exemptions are on the policy. Sometimes one thinks they're covered for certain things when, in reality, they are not.

The idea of losing one's home and having no place to go is terrifying. Yet that could happen if one has a bad accident, no insurance and is sued. A party injured in an accident, that is caused by the uninsured homeowner can always bring suit against everything one owns.

Whether going to the office, school, the supermarket or elsewhere, when a person gets behind the wheel of a car they are taking a chance. A chance that no one will run into them and a chance that they will not run into someone else. With the proper insurance one knows that no matter what happens they are covered.
