Later he evolved to curing animal skins to create leather clothes. From there he learnt how to weave together different fibres to create cloth and has never looked back since. The chief function of clothes are to protect us from the elements, but they have evolved over the years to keep us comfortable as we engage in various activities. We wear different outfits for our work environments or when we play tennis, go jogging, surfing or even for cooking. Clothing is also standardized as uniforms to denote status in the military and the clergy, amongst others. It has also been designed to define gender, as evidenced from our earliest years. Traditionally infant girls are dressed in pink, often with frills and bows, whilst boys are dressed in blue. Skirts or dresses are only worn by females of the species and it is trousers and boots that traditionally defined mens wear. The high heel, in our modern society, is reserved for women. As we grow up we will go through various phases, much of which will be dictated by the fashion of the times. Popular fashion has a definite influence on individual style and this can easily be seen by looking at the fashion trends over the last century. Bowler hats, beehive hairstyles, Chinese collars, cufflinks, suspender belts, waistcoats, mini skirts and other fashion elements were all worn to perpetuate a particular style. Our underwear, though rarely viewed by others, can say much about our characters.
